sometimes the risk is worth it!!

i've always been risk-averse. the older i get the more i realise i'm too risk-averse. i've always been on my own, been completely responsible for myself. i have no fall-back options. it's hard to feel like you can take risks.

but i'm not getting any younger. so i quit my admin job. it's just not the right career for me. i've been lost since teaching didn't work out - no one talks about what you're meant to do when you get your dream career but it's less dream and more nightmare.

i've wanted to work in museums since i played animal crossing: wild world on my nintendo ds. completing the museum collection was my favourite part of the game.

it's a notoriously difficult industry to break into, and there is only one set of museums where i live (all run by the same organisation). i didn't think it would happen any time soon. but a job came up, just as i was thinking about quitting. i quit anyway, because the job and i were a very bad fit.

i got an interview. but so did over fifty others. the interview was quick and i worried i hadn't done enough to stand out against so many other candidates. three weeks passed. nothing. i didn't get it, did i?

i resigned myself to applying for jobs i didn't really want, but was willing to do to pay the bills.

yesterday the phone rang at 17:39. i'm going to work in a museum!! 8 year old me playing animal crossing in a blanket fort can sleep happy knowing it will happen, she'll just have to wait another couple of decades

lesson learned. i should take risks more often
